Minutes of First Meeting of Wasatch Penturners Club 06/25/2009
The meeting was brought to order at 7:00 pm by Harold Lee, who organized the meeting and the use of the training room at Woodcraft in Sandy, Utah.
Harold covered the Pens for Troops program which is being sponsored by Woodcraft.
Harold had a printed agenda for everyone in attendance, and we all introduced ourselves and told a little bit about our backgrounds and interests, and those of us who brought items for show & tell shared information about the items we brought.
We then reviewed the agenda item by item. The group decided to hold our meetings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm the first Thursday of every other month. The months we will meet are: June, August, October, December, February, April. The meeting place will be Woodcraft in Sandy, Utah, and they have agreed to include information about our meetings in their monthly flyer.
It was decided that our meetings will consist of the following activities: show & tell, tips, techniques, helps, member demonstrations, guest speakers and demonstrators, panel discussions such as “sharpening methods” and “finishes and finishing methods”. It was also decided that we will have a “swap & sell” table each time. Door prizes will be offered from time to time. Perhaps there will be filming of demonstrations for distribution to club members on DVD for a small charge. There will likely be a Christmas party and perhaps a “lending library” of books and videos.
Harold challenged us to contact our friends that turn pens and invite them to join our group. Woodcraft will allow us to put up a poster advertising when our meetings will be held. We will soon have a website, and in May of 2010 we may have a booth at the Penturners Rendezvous in Orem, Utah. The possibility of becoming a chapter of International Penturners Association was also discussed but nothing was decided. Another benefit of club membership will be participating in group purchases of materials.
It was decided that dues will be $24 per year which is easy to prorate for club members to join partway through the year. From time to time there may be raffles to raise additional club funds.
“Wasatch Penturners” was suggested as our club name by Harold Lee and it was unanimously accepted by all in attendance.
The following officers were selected and each will serve a term of one year:
President – Harold Lee
Vice President – Paul Yates
Secretary – Mark Elmer
Treasurer – Tim Schaeffer
